The quote in the message is from the book-length poem 'Festus', by Philip James Bailey. The most likely reason the card has no stamps or postmarks is because it was enclosed with the "copy of 'Fate' " mentioned in L.M. Montgomery's message. The "naval battle" referred to may be the Battle of Jutland (May-June 1916).
