Exciting News from the LMMI: New Chair Announced, Book Launches and More

On Thursday the 27th of July, the LMMI held an event at the Robertson Library as part of the UPEI Reunion Weekend. There were two exciting announcements, as well as a celebration of the new initiatives and publications dedicated to the life of L.M. Montgomery.

The first announcement is the hiring of a new Chair in L.M. Montgomery Studies & Communication, Leadership and Culture, Dr. Kate Scarth, who we will be interviewing later this month.

The second announcement, is from Project Bookmark, a national organization that celebrates literary places, real or imagined, across Canada, by marking it with a bookmark. Executive Director, Laurie Murphy, announced the placement of a bookmark and poem, "The Gable Window" at the L.M. Montgomery Homestead in Cavendish on the 24 of June 2018.

People also came to experience the Virtual 3D recreation of The Wreck of Marco Polo.

Andrea McKenzie and Jane Ledwell’s collection of essays, L.M. Montgomery and War. Carolyn Strom Collins, author of After Many Years, Betsy Epperly, author of Power Notes, and Melanie J. Fishbane, author of Maud: A Novel Inspired by the Life of L.M. Montgomery, were also there to sign copies of their books.

This is just a few of the exciting initiatives to come for the Institute. And, there's still time to submit a proposal for our biennial conference, L.M. Montgomery and Reading next June.
