Pre-Conference Workshop B -- Once Upon a Space: Memory and Place, A life-writing workshop with Deirdre Kessler
How does the process of encoding memory in life writing and poetry echo cultural memory encoded in familiar and much-loved texts such as those of L.M. Montgomery and in the geology and landscape of familiar and much-loved places such as Prince Edward Island?
Is it possible to unravel a few strands of a life or a few strands of memory to see how we have interwoven human time with place?
In a series of writing exercises designed by the facilitator, participants will discover for themselves the responses to these questions about memory and place, memory and culture, memory and text.
-- Deirdre Kessler is recipient of the University of Prince Edward Island Award for Teaching Excellence by a Sessional Lecturer (2010). She is author of two dozen books for children and adults, including Afternoon Horses (poetry). She teaches creative writing and children’s literature at the University of Prince Edward Island.
Workshop will be held 3:30pm - 5:30pm, Wednesday, June 20, at the Faculty Lounge, Main Building, University of Prince Edward Island
