From Canada to the World: The Cultural Influence of Lucy Maud Montgomery
The University of Guelph will be hosting a three day Lucy Maud Montgomery conference from October 23 to 25, 2008 in celebration of 100 years of Anne of Green Gables. The conference is aptly titled "From Canada to the World: the Cultural Influence of Lucy Maud Montgomery" - it will celebrate the author's life and influence on Canada and the world.
The University of Guelph is the natural home for such an event, which will attract researchers, academics and enthusiasts from around the world, as we house the largest collection of Montgomery memorabilia in Canada.
Highlights include talks by two of the most pre-eminent Montgomery experts in the world - the University's own Dr. Mary Rubio (who will be discussing the contents of her new biography of LMM which will be launched at the Conference) and Dr. Elizabeth Waterston. The luncheon on Saturday October 25 will feature recipes from Montgomery's personal cookbook and food writer Liz Driver will be on hand to discuss the cookbook as an historical artifact and in the evening, Pamela Wallin will provide the keynote address at a special dinner.
From the film screenings of "I Know a Secret" and "Boys and Girls" on the Thursday evening, to the optional tours to Montgomery's Ontario homes in Leaskdale and Norval on the Sunday, this promises to be an occasion worthy of its subject.
