Theatre Performance supports L.M. Montgomery Institute

The Montgomery Theatre in Cavendish is presenting a special performance of the romantic comedy The Fourposter on Friday, July 24th in support of the L.M. Montgomery Institute   (www.lmmontgomery.ca). Proceeds from ticket sales for the evening's performance will go to support the research and educational activities of the LM Montgomery Institute at UPEI.

Directed by Zach Fraser, The Fourposter by Jan de Hartog explores a delightful couple's 35 years of married life in scenes that take place in, on, or around their big four poster bed.  This fictional story closely mirrors the marriage period of Anne Shirley and Gilbert Blythe in the 8 Anne books and L.M. Montgomery's marriage between 1910 and 1942. Reproductions of Montgomery's wedding dress and later wardrobe are worn throughout the play by Margaret Smith as the character Agnes, playing opposite Kevin Curran as husband Michael.

This special evening will begin at 7 p.m. with a talk by the Institute's newly-appointed Visiting Scholar, Dr. Benjamin Lefebvre, one of the most active young scholars in the field of Montgomery studies. In keeping with the theme of The Fouposter, Dr. Lefebvre will discuss Montgomery's marriage, as she presented it in her famous Journals.

The Fourposter  will follow at its regular show time of 7:30 p.m.  Tickets can be purchased online at www.themontgomerytheatre.com or by calling 902.963.3847.
